This time of year always prompts reflection and a process of categorising, dealing with and filing away in a big drawer labelled The Past.

So many falling leaves
returning to the earth;
so many drops of rain
returning to the sea:
so many dreams escaping
into eternity:
so many needful hearts
lamenting in the dearth.

So much hopeless yearning
the dying summer mocks:
so many empty pillows
to scorn the lonely sigh:
and cold nights to regret
lost opportunity
when darkness rules again
beyond the equinox.

What a beautiful and resonant echo of emptiness. Very smooth flow; a lament for the spring. Really excellent.
