Underneath my skin
by Rana M

Mysterious shades of fate fallen bad
My soul gnawed upon in deprivation
Merciless saints wearing horns of evil
Mauled my dreams by discrimination

Had never been such life I ever wished for
There's an infinite pain underneath my Skin

I had always been humble ever since
Explicitly lovable, pondering acclamation
It's a crime to be loyal in the modern world
The word "love" seemingly lost its definition

Had never been such life I ever wished for
I'm alone but alive underneath my skin

Even if you find my eyes raining tears
My soul's pure with no fluctuation
Wandering in this cruel wild world
People kept searching my imperfections

Had never been such life I ever wished for
I'm shattered and lost underneath my skin

It's a crime to be loyal in the modern world

The word "love" seemingly lost its definition

these two lines speak volumes to me, it seems like you have an old soul, an old fashioned heart and a loving disposition that is lost on the modern world. Too bad I say, hold yourself dear despite them and place those fences a few feet apart, allowing only those who deserve the closeness. Take care and thank you for sharing your precious heart so thoroughly, It takes a brave man to do that, xo

This poem is much different than your other poetry, darker. More in line with my morbid thoughts. I could hear Hozier's song in the background, "Take me to Church." We all live with our pain, hidden deep beneath our skins.

I sense that there is a sense of being singled out for being different or not fitting in--discriminated against.

Not the destiny John but fate sometimes makes you think the way I though in this poem.
Only the lucky ones see all the colors of life

Cheers!

There is the recognition of pain in this poem as well as profound perception. Our destiny is not something as "such life I ever wished for." John

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
