Perhaps if I were a goddess,
an immortal beauty
the epitome of eternal truth,
Maybe then I would
be woman enough,
be brave enough to face
The complexity of your wanton ways.
To have the strength
and the wisdom
to betray myself
Into your warm embrace.
Perhaps if I were a swan,
elegant and graceful
gliding across pools of deep blue,
Cutting water like glass,
I could bring myself to you.
Swim deep within your bottomless pools,
the color of lapis
blue as the night.
Maybe then I could dissolve
my childish fears
and become half
Of your wholeness.
Perhaps if I were a tree,
steadfast and strong,
rooted deep in dark, rich soil,
With branches full of vibrancy and life
maybe then my own belief
would run deeply embedded
Within you.
And my arms, like those branches,
outstretched and open,
holding your vitality
Next to my own.
And our souls
growing, entwining together.
Perhaps…
