Matthew 7:9 - This poem is an excerpt from the upcoming book "Sunshine for the Soul, Vol. 2"
Society shudders At the notion of One of its own Asking for a handout.
I think that’s funny. Life was built Around handouts.
Babies are given Their daily milk Until learning how to Feed themselves.
Kids are handed Allowances For being good and Helping with chores.
Youths earn Spending money Bagging food and Serving fries.
Grownups toil In voluntary servitude For wages to sate Their wants and needs.
The elderly are fed By those who They once nourished.
All of these things go From one hand to another, From this generation to the next.
Society shuns the needy While storing its own handouts In mattresses Or girding its bodies With simulated skin To be admired by those Who pretend to care.
What’s the point?
Faux fur for faux friends Is one faux pas We can all do without.
ah Yes Robert. This is so powerful and true, and what really is terrible is all we give to other countries while letting our own people suffer. Excellently expressed.
So much truth in powerful, thought provoking verse; thank you. An excellent write.

Handouts for the truly weak and young does not correlate to handouts for anyone who wants it, Robert. Needy? Share the wealth? America is the most generous nation in the world, abroad and at home, and yet we are forever maligned as greedy and irresponsible.
