Feelings that accompany seasonal depression.

Nothing

Like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle,
Ivory diamonds fall from the sky;
Individual flights of fancy swirl
From the heavens, floating around me,
Joining the ever-growing tapestry
Glistening in splendor beneath me.

I see nothing.

The streets echo with the sound of ringing bells;
Carolers lift their voices
To the snow-swollen sky,
Bringing cheer to each hearth and
Joy to passers-by.

I hear nothing.

Spices fill the air with cinnamon and clove;
The subtle scent of poinsettias is everywhere.

I smell nothing.

Sweetmeats of all kinds tantalize my tongue,
My mouth is full of cider and
Cookies of every shape and size.

I taste nothing.

Families and friends cluster
In homes and offices
With season’s greetings and
Warm, fuzzy sentiments.

I feel nothing.

It is the Christmas season,
Where never should be heard
A discouraging word
Or any thought that conveys
Wounded feelings.

I say nothing.

ooh the ending is spectaular. This one is raw life for many I am sure. It is also the most depressing time of the year for those with no one or family. Thank you for sharing this excellent poem.....

Peace & Light
God Bless

A sad poem Robert, but the truth in fact for those that suffer with depression. And for those that claim they never are.... well, we all know. God Bless you richly for this marvelous inspirational poem that was well written my friend! Love Holly

You have described seasonal depression well here, Robert. By the same token, no depressed person could have described the many wonderful delights of the senses experienced during this time of year in such vivid detail, so I know you are not depressed, my friend. You wrote a splendid poem and I applaud you!
Love,
CJ

I can only pray that "Nothing" is savoring it all, lest you speak...until He fills all the senses, in a way He sees fit...
This is quite a write and I know there are people who sense "Nothing", but I can't imagine it...
Love and Peace~
