My Moods are Chords



My moods are chords
Played on the strings of
My heart.

The day’s emotions
Strum through me in
Voices of contrast,
Active and passive,
Direct and subtle.

Whether minor or major,
Sharp or flat,
My thoughts and feelings
Can be found on
The black-and-white keys
Of my soul.

Days of A major
Give me unrestrained joy;
I cry in the key of G.

I often get lost
In reflections of C minor,
Filtering the noise of
Its major mirror image,
While longing for
The serenity of E.

When life flattens my D,
I can feel the distress;
Left unresolved,
My anger sharpens my G.

If I pray long enough,
I can calm down to find
My equilibrium in B.

I sleep each night
In perpetual concert
To the notes of the day,
Sounding in echoes of moments
Played on the reeds of my mind.
