NOTE: The first verse contains two occurrences of profanity. Apologies to those offended by them, but not by the sentinments inspiring them.

Full Moons are Bad News

I saw the pale white ball
Sitting up in the night sky
And cringed;
Full moons are bad news,
Where Common Sense
Gets its ass kicked by
Self-centered people
Who are too busy
Taking a shit on the world
To give one about it.

Not that it matters to you;
When somebody exposed
Your careless self,
You bent over and showed us
Which body part
Contains your brain.

Full moons are bad news;
The one sitting way up there
Always brings out
The worst in us.
Pogo was right about
The enemy we’ve met.

If you want to meet your worst one,
Just look in a mirror…
Except you’d never recognize
The one most responsible for
Your state of malaise.

Every now and then,
You try to show us
How much you’ve straightened up
And want to make things better,
But we’re on to that game;
No sooner do we forgive you
Than you’re back to your old rotten self.

Despite all that, we still trust you.
What does that say about us?

It says that we’re still hopeful that
Sooner or later,
Government will stop making us cringe at
The sight of a full moon.
