A visit to my grandmother when I was a boy of 10.

Rows

of ancient Jewish mothers

like angry crustaceans

perched on lawn chairs

claws out

pinch at the peach fuss of my flushed cheeks

I kiss the skin above

their turkey necks

and listen to their code of Yiddish.

* Published in the Harvard Mosaic

Their generous breasts

withered by their offspring

who

weaned on shtetl milk

now long beyond the pale

leave their mothers

to dry

in the summer sun.

( first published in the Harvard Mosaic)

Ahhhh! Sooo love this! There is a wonderful lady out there somewhere I call my second mum, a lovely Jewish Mama and though I haven't seen her for some years (too much ocean separates us) I can still feel her grab hold of me and envelope me in her ample bosom (until I can hardly breathe)...and It still makes me smile...

Your line:
of ancient Jewish mothers
like angry crustaceans
perched on lawn chairs

- brilliant imagery - I love it!
Thank you
