A couple I saw regularly during my stint in Cambridge, Mass.
Two old women
walk down my street each morning
lugging two shopping bags
and widow humps
arm in arm
a tight embrace
of frail appendages
pushing each other
at no more than a snail's pace.
Each morning
refusing the pull of age's inertia
a daily ritual
of decrepit defiance
walking the ground
that will own them
once again.
