Often silence bears repeating… Anon

Poem Artwork

Listen to the tongue of quietude speak.
Ease the teases from whisper-steeped spaces
In thoughts' stream, the skipped beats of squeak and shriek.
Soul console unfolds in lonely places.
Intrinsic wisdom wells when there’s stillness.
The voice of our choices harps deep within:
Without, ears drummed into mind-numbed illness.
How can we hear ourselves, feel, in our skin?
Heed wordlessness to reveal what is real;
More potent than mere poetry portrays;
All the yearning gaze, magnetic smile, peel
Of soundless laughter, voiceless cry, conveys.
Still, writers write words gifted of retreat:
Strings of truth and beauty, pearls beyond conceit.

"The voice of our choices harps deep within..."

Very, very elegantly written and quite philosophically expressive, Helga!

Outstanding in every way...!

As I've always said you have a unique way with words
that come out with just the right message, beautifully
written.

I love this Helga! When I think of silence I think
of all the benefits I've derived from meditation.

How did I miss this poem? Was I in limbo?
"Listen to the tongue of quietude speak." If could only do that! Our minds are so often cluttered with nonsense. Silence is a powerful tool, a way into the spirit. Thanks for these words, Helga. Maybe missing the poem when posted, was not a mere accident. Maybe I needed to read it NOW.

Very orgininal use of words Helga, your rhymed phrases and alliteration create tension within the lines and leasd the reader onward. The very graphic imagery contains a deeply spiritual element too.

Helga, this poem brings the title: "In The Still Of The Night" to mind. Sometimes, silence is really golden. Bill Murray

As much as I detest silence sometimes, I have to admit that in these past few years that I've been alone, I have been blessed, and my soul has been enriched beyond words. It is in the silence that we must turn within - and truly Listen.

Thank you for a wonderful piece, Helga.

So true...only in silence can we hear our inner voices...even poets must first listen.

Well done!
