The Monster in the Mirror

We all have demons, some that scream so loud with rage inside our minds it’s deafening.  Some drive us to do horrible, despicable things.  Others cripple and make slaves of us—this all depends on whether we conquer it or it devours us.

In the end does it really matter?  Are we creating these imaginary demons to shield ourselves from what really makes us do the things we do?  Is it because we’re afraid to admit that there are no demons haunting us at all?  What we truly fear and cannot accept is that there is an unconscionable black void that lives in all of us—the unconscious mind.  It’s a cold, dark, place where some of us crawl deep inside to escape the world around us.  Do we wrap ourselves up in a blanket of divinity to protect ourselves from the darkness within?  Do we worship and pray to a God that has forsaken us or has God merely ceased to exist?  Are we simply mindless drones who cling to the ideals of God or Evil because it gives us our identity?  Do we truly have free will or have our paths been predetermined for us?  Only time will tell.

Without these preconceived perceptions of what’s good or bad; what constitutes purity or evil, what would we be?  Did we create these deities to explain our reasons for being here and if these entities didn’t really exist would we?

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!

Next Arrivals by Robin Ouzman Hislop

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
