As long as this "thing" as you put it is used to protect family and communicate and bless others, and further the Truth, I would imagine that any moment of aberration on a warriors part must be construed as a generality.
There is something to be said about sensing injustice and responding without understanding all the particulars. In other words, communicating and understanding, in this warriors mind, is the prime directive and one that is sorely lacking.
If we can't communicate and we misunderstand each other there will
always be rifts filled with suspicion and dissent.
