I look like love
twice left behind
about to come
up over the hillside
found in the sultry morning
taking words back to hours
stalking last night’s remnants
of cheap wine
threading tongues
with strings of
drunk conversation
redeeming us
as best friends
but I am really bad
with names of people I like
if you knew me by now
you’d understand
these brilliant imperfections
don’t rain from lips
confined in deserted
lands of silence
seen through the fire
up over the hillside
where the air burns
each deep breath
we don’t give back
The view from over here
looks just fine
we are two of the few
who can sun ourselves
in society’s shady disposition
