When I was young he helped me walk.
He was a quiet man; not much on talk.
He may have lacked in conversation.
He could quietly and yet constantly cause jubilation.
He taught me how to bait a hook and catch a fish from the river.
He warmed my hands on those cold winter days that made me shiver.
I will never forget when he taught me how to drive
And even more importantly how to live life to it’s fullest and survive.
One day the Master called him home to stay
But I still feel his presence in a most wonderful way.
The things he showed me and the time he gave,
Even when he was stern telling me to behave.
All these molded my being and I realize as I look back.
Love was one thing he did not lack.
I admired the way he handled even the most minimal task.
If ever I had a question I could go to my Dad and ask.
He never pretended to have all the answers to every question
But he would try to at least offer some kind of suggestion.
Now, when all is said and done I must rejoice.
If I listen hard I still can hear his voice.
I shout to the Heavens, high above
Dear Dad, you have my steadfast love.
Happy Fathers Day
Ted
