Written from the perspective of the muse, aching to come to life, longing to be her poet's inspiration...

The Poet's Travail

 ~~~~~~~~~~
He is a poet, a rogue, a builder of dreams
Not unfamiliar with life’s perils
And his own demons.
He finds comfort in tranquil solace...
Moments to work, write, create, seek
To unleash his fantasy, his muse.
Could he mold her from his whim,
Find her, this missing piece...
Create her with his lyric words?
Would she indeed be worthy of him?
Did she hide behind piercing recollections
Would she thus elude him still?
Could he bear to risk another love...
To give in to this lure of womanly perfection
Heart cautious, wary… defensively wounded?
Where did her integrity hide?
And was it possible she could satisfy his desire
Dare paper accept his intricate design?
The risk taken, words transpired,
flooded his page
And he waited restlessly, almost afraid
As that creature he imagined became reality.
Was she the woman he dreamed with his pen
ethereal,
eyes brightly defining love
An untouched angel designed only for him?
Had he conjured her from his soul
Or was he lost in the overwhelming
Nature and spirit of his desire?
From his mind she is suddenly revealed...
Relaxing him with the warmth
of her sweet smile
Eyes inexplicably seizing...
tantalizing his lusting core.
She kneels lovingly before him now,
Nourished by his very being
As he twists the golden strands
his pen designed.
What he once dreamed only with quilled hand
Now slumbers peacefully in his arms
As content as the poet
who gave her life.
~~~~~~

Oh how impressive you are to accomplish bringing the muse's muse to life! The intimacy you create between the poet and his muse is both moving and inspiring. My favorite lines are:

"What he once dreamed only with quilled hand
Now slumbers peacefully in his arms
As content as the poet
who gave her life."

This piece is, in my humble opinion, a masterpiece of the highest order! The art work you have chosen is outstanding.

I see such a change from this early poem to the ones you are writing now. I think this is a wonderful idea for a poem and wonder how you would write if differently today? This poem have great possibilities.

Yes indeed...you breathed life into her with a tender yearning and from believing it comes to pass and in a twinkling your love reposes in your poem.
Magnifiscent.

My goodness, Taylor... pleased to meet you! :)) And WHAT an introduction! You bring both Poet and Muse to more than 3-D life here in ways that are positively EPIC in terms of their classic personas and personal interaction. Your understanding of the whys and wherefores of both are totally AWESOME - and especially of how they relate and are mutually dependent - or co-dependent. I am personally fascinated by your intro, because, although you capture adroitly the supposed psyche of both, for me this reads as an account from the perspective of the Poet. You have penned the elusive and ethereal interaction between the two in the most captivating and delightful way. As special as that bond is is this delightful write. And thank you for your heart-warming review on my The End... you are welcome into my posted thoughts at any time and are already no stranger in my mind. Indeed, I was going to maybe write you and ask if I could use your comment "Spinnaker Dreams" on Jude's latest post as the title of a poem, should one come to be... it impacted me so; both your work and your reviews chime with me. reminds me of the old chessnut. where a handsome man asked his pal to write love letters for him to his girl, she fell in love with the he letters...........and of course the not so dashing author of the letters...
The moral... write yer own letters..lol

Ah yes . . . the power of imagination in all of its complexities and beauties.

This was enchanting Taylor, your best I believe!

It seems sometimes that the borders get blurred between the real and the surreal, especially for those that create, but there still remains a life changing power in both that propels one forward.

Many blessings
