When I hear so much about the fear and decisiveness in this country, it doesn't appear to be very hopeful for a good outcome. But then, as I read and view the world through the magic of the camera, Internet and television, I find that people the world over are discovering, researching, and improving everything for all of us. We need to pay attention to what is really important and not to what our selfish needs seem to be, especially at a thankful time like this. The first pilgrims mistakingly thanked their God and Savior for surviving their first year in the New World. Perhaps they should have thanked, and probably did, the indigenous people that showed them how to raise food, hunt and survive.

Thankfulness

As we rush through our multitasking lives,

dealing with ever more trivial problems,

we often find we mortally despise.

We gain a sense of pessimism,

that people don't really care.

We gain a sense of hopelessness,

our days turning into nightmare.

While our horizons have broadened,

to see more clearly the whole wide earth,

we zero in on our neighborhood,

and judge its character, its worth.

We now see and hear so much,

that's out of our control.

We look for simple solutions,

like our simpler lives before.

But there are no simple solutions.

It takes us all working as a team.

Have to be on the same wavelength,

achieve the American/Worldwide dream.

For to think only of our country’s,

often most checkered, past.

As a time of great glory, overlooks,

things we would think of now, aghast.

As a whole the world gets better,

and more unified in thought every year.

To not be thankful for that fact,

it is to be listening, but not to hear.

Everywhere injustices are being exposed,

we should rejoice and be thankful for that,

instead of turning up our noses,

jumping to conclusions, meat from the fat.

For who are we to judge those,

whose footsteps we have not walked,

if our lives were made vice versa,

would we still have loudly balked.

Be thankful for all those on the earth,

doing the right thing where they live.

For it's only in doing the right thing,

Will the world gain more as we give.

I like this poem very much Ron. Life does seem so complicated and it's up to us to find a place of tranquility and thankfulness within our own soul.

Yes, life can at times suck, but lives are much better than we ever thought, and still for a better life we've sought, have to catch it by the tail and hold on for dear life, for some of us we have to of it caught, but as time goes on we have to of it lost...-e-

I remember Dickens "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..." seems always to be like that. Thanks for sharing.

Noble sentiments that certainly need to be said, especially at this time of year. Thank you for penning this worthwhile message. However, I take to task the phrase "the American/Worldwide dream." I wonder what that is. Certainly having the words American and Worldwide separated only by a forward slash suggests a synchronicity that just doesn't exist. The American Dream itself is now in question, much less an American/Worldwide dream !

Keep seeing the good, Ron. It's all around us.

Only when we unify our efforts to make this world a better place do we find contentment in ourselves and others. What a beautiful poem . It reached my heart today, Thanks Ron xo

In the aftermath of the recent London bombing, your poem is like a stream of pure water. It's true that all we ever hear about, it seems, are the bad things that happen in the world. What if nothing but good ever happened? We probably wouldn't have an evening news.
