They are everywhere among us and we must guard against following them and their causes… largely to increase their power and wealth.

Charlatans

Prophets, preachers, pontiffs and proselytizers,

pontificating to those they know are just losers.

Comforters, conspirators, counselors all,

conspire to gather the weak to their call.

Imposters, inquisitors, influencers of ilk,

impose fantasies on others smooth as silk.

Politicians, pundits, spread their pall,

purging their opponents with a war call.

So many believers and so few with concern,

so many just following others to learn.

When will they ever recognize charlatans,

embedded in their midst like chameleons?

When will they ever think on their own?

When will they, their own mind, call home?

Answers to those questions is close at hand,

but when will free will overcome joining the band?

Joe Souths the 'games people play' and 'blowing in the wind' came immediately to mind when I read your poem Ron. I enjoyed that it also refreshed my memory of Cher's sagely line in 'Gypsies tramps & thieves'. "Grandpa would do whatever he could, preach a little Gospel, sell a couple bottles of Dr. Good". Of course Joe South's, "singing glory glory alleluia, while they try to sock it to you, in the name of the Lord" speaks troves of truth for some of the televangelist Thank you for the good read Ron.

When will people think on their own? A good question since people are conned out of billions of dollars each year. They look for quick answers to their problems that will replace hard work. Who among us has not given in to the velvet voice telling us how to get rich or overcome our problems? I receive emails every day telling me how to play the stock market, increase my book sales, or even get a movie made out of my "book." Well said.

We need to keep thinking for ourselves or else we'll get lost in the sheep barn, and follow blindly, keep your eyes ears and heart open, always discern, and you won't go wrong Ron, nice poem, hope all is well.

When indeed, the saga of the sheeple. Well penned, Ron, and thought provoking.

There is so much I could say here with regard to certain individuals and current events, but this isn't the place. Perhaps an article in store? At any rate, Ron, you ask the question I often ask in our thoughtfully unique way. Well done.

One can only trust that there are enough people to ward off this pandemic of ignorance and gullibility and make a difference.

It would be so much easier if it were merely a couple of clowns selling the venum oil, but it is a contagion worth worrying about.

Your piece would be a good response to the deluge of emails that will only pick up steam in the coming months of mail-order chameleons.

I so agree, Ron. I love your alliteration. You remind me of my father who taught me all about that. All the best to you,
