A poem for a new student who I was meeting for the first time
So beautiful in all your anger
Curled in a chair too big for your self
Yet not big enough for all the angst
You listen but show us no emotion
To all the BS the adults have to say
It's all about you,
But nobody asks you
They all just go on and on
A forever stream of nonsense
Meaningless and without depth
Test scores and, "NO"
Your mom can't see you
Her yearly plan says, "blah, blah, blah."
On your left in your new foster mom
Next to her, your caseworker, Jan
Across the table , your new teacher
"Be a good girl and you you can
Have this and that and....
Aren't you just soo excited?"
