Christmas-From Another Point of View

A student of mine came up to me and said,"You know, Christmas isn't so merry for me, I can't wait to have it be over." From his words came these thoughts-still a work in progress

The holidays are not happy.
And Christmas isn’t merry.
Not for the poor.
So many single mothers with tears in their eyes
on Christmas morn’ ’cause they couldn’t
provide the one gift that made
her little one’s eyes sparkle in the store at the mall.
Fathers who work, work and work some more
And still there isn’t a way to stretch enough
to meet the expectations of wife and kids.
Not to mention the dictates of society.
So many really good kids
Cruelly forgotten by Santa
And that bully with all the gadgets
Both turkey and a ham on his festive table.
He’s always there to brag
‘cause Santa- the world
Likes his family more

what is truly sad is the way christmas is defined by giving, poor lil guy, heartbreaking to think about all of the children who suffer because the meaning of christmas has been lost, mike

I can relate to this. As a child, there were some Christmases I'd as soon forget. Thank you for sharing this important message, Karen. Love and peace to you,

Regis

I have been here, and it is a heartbreaking reality for alot of families...but believe it or not...these times were when the true meaning of Christmas would shine the brightest!
As a single mom with eight children, at a time in my life, I shed many a tear, wishing for all the sugar plums and filled stockings, presents galore and a Christmas tree to put them under...and then life got a little better and I was able to buy a house for them, and together, my husband and I, still find it hard to afford anything else. I am just so thankful we have each other, our health and our home and to top it off, Our Lord!
I tell my children that "Oneday" it will get better, but until that time...let's still be happy! Smiles!
Merry Christmas to all~ presents or not...
Love and Peace~

i would give the world if every child could be happy for Christmas. as adults, we can cope but why should one child be unhappy at this time of year, there are enough adults in the world, if we each reached out to one child, we could make a difference.

Yes, I couldn't agree more
The dark side of Christmas.
Could it be. . . .
Too many people want to "Get"
Not enough that "Give"
Could it be. . . .
Too many people want to "Get out"
And many "Give in"
The True meaning is being "lefted out"
"For unto you is born this day. . . ."

Yes you have touched on a crucial realism of Christmas, not all people get to enjoy the many benefits we take too often for granted. However if we all dropped an extra twenty in the poor box, donated toys or clothes or even volunteered to help out at a local community shelter or food bank etc, it could indeed make a big difference.
