a lovely moment in my morning

Poem Artwork

While teaching a riding lesson

In the early morning sun

My granddaughter busied herself

Playing in the dirt and climbing the fence

She covered her horses and dolls

With the dirt to pretend they were in bed

Then she balanced on poles

Pretending to be a gymnast

Toward the end of the hour

My student worked on pacing

And keeping her position over the jumps

Then out of the corner of my eye

My granddaughter walked to me

In her hands a small bouquet

She smiled and presented them

With her tiny hands outstretched

These flowers say, “I Love You”, grandma

And now home, those flowers

Tiny buds of purple and white

In a ‘Strawberry Shortcake’ Sippy cup

Proudly adorn the center of my table

What a sweet piece! Is anything sweeter than a grandchild bearing a token of love?

If children are our greatest gift, then their children's children somehow even more so... I hear so often that this relationship is EXTRA special, often allowing sentiments to rise that somehow were less expressed in the immediate closeness of parent/child. This is INDEED precious and, if it were me, think I'd have more than half an eye on my granddaugher all the while, and only severed attention on the poor pupil! Ahhhh... the glorious rewards of both the Teacher and the Grandparent... both fabulous and invaluable roles. TY Kate xx

Beautiful. Children often make this world a better place with a single action.

Ahhhhhh I can so relate to this, grandchildren are the best that life has to give to us. My own are constantly wanting to give me little things like that and it brings to mind one visit I had last week with my Jaimie Lee who didn't have time to prepare somthing for me went down and dug out a used card from some her mother had put away. It was a father's day card but according to her it read "I love you Poppy" and you know it is priceless to me.
