“What did you learn in school today?”

“Oh, we learned that one thing that you do in your class,,

   “Oh, The Pledge of Allegiance.”

   “Yeah, that’s it, we had to practice it three times,

Can you help me learn it?”

 In unison, she sometimes a bit behind

And stumbling over the big words,

We recited the pledge, and as the words rolled forth

I was struck with the importance of was was occurring here

Not just one kindergarten child

But thousands from sea to shinning sea

Were learning this statement declaring

Their country’s beliefs and their pride in being a citizen

My eyes filled…

“One nation under God, with liberty and justice for all.”
