His teacher held his hands

As he struggled to get to the bus

I went to lend a helping hand

And saw tears run down his cheeks

His knees both pointed sideways

The braces not doing much to help

And by the sideways look of his tear filled eyes

His blindness became apparent

“He’s new to us today”, my teacher friend disclosed

“His mother abandoned him at birth

An aunt and uncle took him in

But they’re now getting old and cannot cope.”

So here he is, sent to live with dad

A heartbreak story, just one among so many

My eyes filled and thoughts flew round

I wanted to know that this child knew some joy

“Oh, and today is his birthday, he’s just turned thirteen”

Heartbreaking poem, Karen; this spoke volumes to me. No child should have to endure such heartache! By the way, Happy Birthday, Brendan; I hope that you get all that you wish for!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :( >tears! <
