Your gift

Upon your back

I am somehow better

More noble as the essence of me

Blends into your benevolent nobility

As you trot, we float

Deftly your hooves touch the ground

And with the toss of your flowing mane

You float on to canter and the wind makes tears in my eyes

With your powerful, sinuous movements

Muscles ripple and we easily cover the ground

You humble me with your grace

I am no longer powerless, you give me wings

What a wonderful picture of the nobility of the horse and its riders. Horses give one the ability to imagine that our world is a timeless place, where anything is possible.

I very much enjoyed this poem. It brings to the surface the yearning I have had all of these years to learn to ride. I love the way you have expressed the deep, spiritual connection between you and this regal creature.

Your excellent poem brings memories flooding back. As an adolescent I was privileged to have as a friend and pet a strawberry roan Tennessee Walking Horse stallion, Dancer--Dan for short. He could rock you to sleep with his smooth gaits. Oh, the times we had racing and pacing around the farm, with saddle and bridle and without. Thanks for the memories.

You know something Karen I always wondered about the horse just showing up wild to grab when we had no auto's.Seems God had this planned. Strong and perfect to ride, your strong verse does our God given ride justice, and as you noted, "a gift" hugs

You are blessed to have the ability to grasp what many can only place thought upon...riding upon the strength of what surely must be a magnificent horse...yes you are blessed...

Your write is as powerful as the horse. I for some reason get very nervous around them, I believe because my grandfather's would chase us, bt I've always said If I could return after death , it would be as a horse because of there strength and beauty. Thank you Karen for sharing.

Oh, the images in this are marvelous, it's great to no longer feel powerless and you can soar like a mighty Eagle. I've never rode a horse but always wanted to. Loved the scene you captured in this poem.

The gift of abandoning oneself to the beauty of being on wings is an incredible feeling. I love horseback riding. It is so freeing. Thank you for the beauty of this.

It is ironic you wrote this today for I dreamt about a poem about a horse and I know absolutely nothing about horses (though I do admire their strength and nobility). Anyway great write and a little insight into the beauty of writing these majestic animals.

Oh my God! Karen, you desribed THE best feeling in the world. I always wanted to write a poem about what it feels like being carried around bareback on my mare Ivey, well - I might not do it after all, it's still too painful. So, I will take your poem here and treasure it in my heart, right next to Ivey's memory. Thank you so very very much!!
Love,
Becca~

Such a beautiful tribute to riding free upon an equine back of strength and grace. It's too bad I'm not a horsewoman...but was, through your words. Thank you! :) Well done, Karen.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
