The Lure of Adventure

The lure of what is unknown

Often fills young souls

Wanting to experience the worlds outside

Of all they have ever known

The open road on a thumb held in the wind

Hitching rides from here to there

The folks who stop lend a hand

Sharing their own stories, mile upon white lined mile

Hop a midnight train,

To somewhere, anywhere

Adventure and promise echo in the song

Of metal wheels on cold steel tracks

The lure of the sea calls to some

Whether sailing out on her white capped waves

Or having her waters that have known time immortal

Lapping at your heels, imparting inspiration

Ancient cathedrals beckon the wandering soul

The echo of ancient marble underfoot

The silence experienced in its immensity

Speaks softly of spiritual quests

Karen, the far calls the young... but not only the young. I think once a Vagabound, you always yearn to explore the unknown.
Loved this write, awakened some memories....

Becca~

"Ancient cathedrals beckon the wandering soul" is hauntingly beautiful. Your poem expresses how each of us is drawn in our own direction - sometimes several directions. Our inner voices can take us on journeys we could never otherwise imagine.

To seek, to gain, to understand - adventure. You pen this most eloquently. Of all the adventures you mentioned, I feel that the spiritual quest is the one most fulfilling. Thank you.

God bless you. Kathy
