Perfect and New

A child is born, perfect and new

Innocence wrapped up in blue

Unaware and in no control of where he has landed

The world around him smiles

The child can’t wait, grows from baby to boy

While time moves forward, days into years

He develops and grows-takes everything in

Shuffling it around, somehow sorting it all into “life”

No use promising to do better soon

‘Cause “soon” never seems to arrive

You hang out in your cloud of oblivion

Your life on the edge of being in shambles

But he seems to get by, on endless bowls of “Top Ramen”

Clothes often dirty, he knows nothing different

But the world who once smiled, now sadly shakes its head

At another child growing, destined to fight life

nice piece Karen, and there's hardly anyway around fighting life, it's always a struggle to survive

A constant cycle going around - keep 'em coming! Don't even ask why so few reveal the mask. And those so few so quickly claimed to a higher cycle but still the same. Round n 'round, no one leaves this game. So says the master of our shame.

...new...one is given at birth...innocence is a different brand of 'Top Ramen' these days...runaway thoughts...lose my description of perfect...with values spoon fed to the best...this is a different world to grow up in.
with hope...

i often question the path our western society followed...it just isn't working in its current structure...there are so many life possibilities that would awakened the life purpose and potential these children come into the world with, but sadly forgot just trying to survive...

Life these days seems to lurch steadily into unknown landscapes that few of us can prepare our children for - except for teaching them ground rules and philosophies that will assist them to make the best decisions in the face of often very difficult circumstances. And materially the more we have, the more we expect, the more we fight for, the more we believe we have a share in and a right to... I often wonder if our worldly aspirations, originally borne out of perhaps a sincere desire to "provide the best for our children" hasn't become the beast that will ultimately devour them. No wonder many are unhappy and confused about what is meaningful and real. Great development in this poem which elucidates your passage of thought. xx

As I a parent, there are plenty of days when I shake my head... realizing how quickly time passes, and worrying if I taught my children well enough.

An older one, who saw much of the world when child discipline was expected and approved, I see in your poem the result of parents refusing be mature enough to make sure that a child grows up into a MATUE human being. Your work is well done. - Bill

You capture the early span of life so well Karen! Then the realization that one is no longer in the limelight. We can only hope that they will choose the right paths as life continues to present the unknown...

Karen, finding life can be difficult for many teens eventhough they get an excellent upbringing. This is sad & heart rendering but it brings this reader a truth that exists in life. Enjoyed!

A lot of the fighting for life going on . . . It is the nature of the game to overcome obstacles . . . to NOT succumb to the baser elements of your nature . . . talking about some things I know about here . . . Although I haven't won, I think I fought the fight to at least a standstill and from where I'm sitting I can be happy with that . . .

The sad poignancy of this write is not lost on a parent or grandparent such as I. I have held at least a few of these new babies in my arms and watched as they grew to adulthood. I was one of the lucky...there but for the grace of God...and all the ones I held as babies grew up to be great adults. I am sure no one holds a baby and says you are going to be such a failure when you grow up so where does the fault lie?
