Fido’s Kibble

Self proclaimed horse lovers lobbied and campaigned,

They e-mailed and they prayed, telling tales of tortured equines

Transported and put to death ending up on European dinner tables,

French McDonalds, and Fido’s kibble.

Their stories were accompanied, to better make an impact,

By gruesome video clips and secret photographs.

The horse’s sweet eyes were confused, their fear evident.

Their poignant roles in mans’ short history forgotten.

So now these folks, in retrospect, have turned their story ‘round

They now are lobbying again, to bring horse slaughter back.

It seems that the problems runs deeper, for horses suffer still

The bottom has dropped out of the equine market for all

Folks are turning horses loose to fend for themselves

And those ponies who used to be worth so much

Do not Bring the same big bucks for those who sell and train

Perhaps the problem lies instead, with those who breed their mares

A spay and geld program, like the ones we have for pets,

Is what I have lobbied for, or a tax, or license – something.

It turns out, I sadly think, that many of those outspoken horse lovers,

In reality are lovers of the almighty, dictator -- money.

i welcome the day when money no longer matters or exists and everything will be traded, bartered, or otherwise made avail to the all! No one should ever eat an animal.

You wrote this with such feeling and emotion. Sad, but well written.

I am not an animal rights activist, thought God knows I probably should be, because I hate to see any animal hurt and mistreated. This whole poem oozes hurt from you, Karen, and I feel it myself . . .
