A Man’s Man

I was touched, today by my father,

With the uncustomary soft-sad lull of his tone.

I could hear the tears as they lingered,

Behind his saddened eyes.

You see, his canine friend and companion, Lucky,

Who had been by his side since the day he was whelped,

In the silent, lingering hours of the night,

Lucky gave up the fight, In the comforting arms of my dad.

In the tone of my father’s words,

I was reminded of the depth of his love,

And that the tears of this man so human,

Make him very precious to me.

It takes a "real" man to show emotion and yes, often it is shown in response to those who have also been unable to "verbalise" theirs. A truly touching and tender character portrait, Karen. Lovely telling detail. Bless you, Kate xx

This makes me think of my story called "Old Bounce's Dignity" when our family friend died saving my brother from a snake bite. Old Bounce was bitten as he ran in front of my brother and attacked the rattlesnake. It was a sad time for our family, but a time of celebrating the heroism of our dear friend. Wishing your father well, and may he also celebrate his friend's life.

Now, be sure that your father sees your words and knows how much your love can help in his grief. I like your eulogy for Lucky.

He is precious, and I'm glad you can sense that to help him get over the loss. Our pets mean a great deal to us and I can remember each one I have mourned over the years, and one especially I had 14 yrs,was very difficult to get through. Excellent compassionate poem Karen.

Love,
