To Honor My Ancestors

Sadly I am distant, a bit lost without connections,

Far removed from any memory,

Of those who came before me in time,

For my culture has not made this knowledge essential.

I feel I have lost much by not knowing,

My lineage, my history, and my family.

Where they kings or queens, robbers or thieves?

Perhaps some were heroes, perhaps they were not.

For some, who they are, is governed by esteemed ancestry,

And lineage matters in their paths in life,

Without this, I recently feel a sense of loss,

And hope that in my life, I honor the memory of my ancestors.
