To Give His Daughter Away

One after another they came to him,

Patted him on the back, shook his hand,

Embraced him in congratulatory hugs,

After he gave his lovely daughter away,

To the young man whom she chose to marry.

But in the moment he laid her hand in his,

And touched the young man’s shoulders as he turned,

With her arm in his, he led her to the pulpit,

To where the pastor stood,

And he bit his finger to hold back the tears,

As he remembered the years with his little girl,

And knew why congratulations felt empty.

So glad the wedding went off so well, and that she will be happy from now on with her loving husband. You have gained a son now and your family is larger. May good times be had by all in the future.
