A Patchwork Life

This came to me as we recently put together a collection of pieces for my barn roof-

A Patchwork Life

Squares, of memories, rectangles of strife,

Triangles of troubles, and circles of love,

Bound together with the sinew-like threads,

Wound strong by the work of life and living.

A patch of dusty rose, for one true love,

One of bright yellow-for sunshine and warmth,

Another in grass green for all that lives,

And a favorite piece, striped, for the rhythm of life.

Oh, and purple, the real thing,

Speaks of boldness and courage,

Then blue for times of sadness, for fallen tears.

And then a bit of brown representing earth's warmth.

And so there it is, a patchwork life,

Not perfectly even, nor perfectly matched.

Pieces taken from day one to the present,

When bound together, a magnificent fit.

I am so glad you feel when bound together it's a magnificent fit because we have to accept all the good and bad which completes our life. A patchwork indeed.

I love your metaphor. I always thought life was like a puzzle where the pieces were more frequently, than not, missing and my goal was to seek the missing pieces; however, the concept of a patchwork life is beautiful and very thought provoking. Well done, Karen.

...to build such beauty...in life and in your words...becomes the foundation of a fine heart...and secures the beauty of all colors...to reflect in the sky.

Like the coat of many colors, significant for love. This evokes pictures of color and time reels of life. My fave is the striped representing rhythm. Beautiful!

Great patchwork write. It tells of all things coming to your mind at present and some things of the past. This is a supremely good write, interesting to bat.

Roofed your own patch of the sky, Karen...memories stapled on shingles interlocked with care and precision to keep your animals dry. A Patchwork Life is an interesting manger scene out of the manger...very creative to re-roof your barn in this country patchwork style...be well.

Love,
Sage
