Hold Her hand

My father’s mother, my grandmother dear,

Was one who nurtured, hugged and loved.

It was on her lap I learned stories from the Bible,

David and Goliath, Moses and more.

My grandmother suffered with diabetes,

But I never heard her complain.

She passed on many years ago now,

I have her New testament.

As two weeks ago, in the middle of the night,

I reached out to ease my little sister’s pain,

In the subtleties surrounding all that went on,

I heard my grandma telling me,

“Hold her hand, just hold her hand.”

The simplicity of just being there to hold a hand is one that expresses great love and caring. I know your grandmother and your sister both knew that your heart was huge and had the love in it to share when needed.

Dear Karen, my heart goes out to you and your precious sister. Your poem is profoundly stirring and your grandmother's words are greater than gold. A gentle hand clasping your sister's hand departs strength, love, patience, understanding, hope, and about a million more loving emotions. God bless you both!
