“But I Tried”

We use the word “Try”

Like we think credit is deserved for nothing.

The words, “But I tried”, so commonly used,

To let ourselves of the hook,

For never quite getting things done.

Just think, I challenge you, of every time,

You have used or heard these words,

For when they are stated, you can be sure,

That whatever the task, it didn’t get done.

In preference we could persevere,

Working hard ‘til the undertaking is complete,

For when we are finished, our souls fill with pride,

Or at the very least, we will feel,

A sense of competence, accomplishment, and pride.
