just some ramblings as I considered some talks my sister and I have had

Sister Talks

We had some heart to heart, soul to soul talks,

Some unraveling and undressing of our souls,

Bringing about some honest and sobering realizations,

Of how we live and have lived our lives.

And I realized there, and was able finally,

To put into words and say aloud,

That I had spent too much of my life,

In a pushing, pulling angst filled battle.

I acted like it was me, against life itself,

And sometimes what should have been peaceful,

Was like a war within, forcing and with a fury.

And those which could have been moments of peace,

Were spent in a frantic, sweaty frenzy,

Battling, always to be better.

So I wonder, as I constantly work to be good enough,

For those who raised me, my family, and God,

And for my children and their children, and friends as well,

And even now, I am never quite there,

Not good enough for even me.

But it all serves to keep me driven;

Moving forward to make this life matter.

In the end I do find times of peace,

When the angst and turmoil recede,

And I can relax and know, I can, indeed be worthy.

I still struggle with feeling worthy and good enough... that perception of not good enough haunts me...

great soul searching veres Karen, but relax you're just fine, we all have our flaws, the key is knowing how to forgive yourself and move on, cheers

You are worthy indeed. I think total peace would mean we never grow or go deeper in our search for life's meaning, so a bit of unsettled souls is actually a great thing-you showed that here, that it is the journey, not the destination.

Such striving can kill a person. You've got to forgive youself and accept the realization that no one is worthy, that's why we have love. It's the same as God's grace ... unmerited favor.

Ramblings? Truths are spoken as you have such high standards. Thankfully, moments of peace arrive, moments meant for exhaling and realizing you are enough, right now. Continue to exhale.

Dear Heart you won't get there, where people are concerned. But with God you've arrived. An honest and thought provoking pen.

To look into ones innerself and perceive the good and bad in side , is hard to do. If a person can accomplish it , it helps to make them more aware of shortcomings and stronger in lie! I'm glad your sister is doing better and that you had a chance to be with her !....M

One can wonder about the cards that life has dealt, but in the end is up to us to play or fold, the only difference is that if we have someone to really talk to, we will have the edge.

I can tell you about those years of my own "pushing, pulling angst filled battle," but then you know about them so I'll just say you have lived your life as you have because you are you, Karen. And I have a feeling, when you relax and look around you, you have to be proud of what you have accomplished.

....when Mother Theresa said she was not worthy...I knew I was in desperate trouble...we can always seek and find ways to become better..your poem is heartfelt and one we can all relate to I am sure.

This breathes live into a weary soul, for I too have felt the weight of responsibility that comes from being a father, a brother, a son, a friend. I have doubts as we all must from time to time doubt but this write of yours makes me feel it is okay to make mistakes as long as we keep on trying.
