A Selfish Hand

To a father who committed suicide-

A Selfish Hand

It was a selfish hand that pulled the trigger,

And the same hand that took the father,

From his two sons and four young daughters,

And left a hole where a soul had been.

You thought wrong; the money was not enough,

To make it all better for all those left behind,

But so sadly you didn’t think straight at all,

‘Cause all they wanted was more time with you.

So the sons you fathered received the burden,

Of grief and confusion and a hand-hold on your casket,

Along with a legacy to choose or not,

To be fathers who abandon their kids.

Painfully sad and a strong message that often is not heard until it is too late...perhaps if only one person reads this and hears than a miracle will happen.

Sometimes, no matter how you wish to swim for the sake of the loved ones the boulder attached on your back is too big and too heavy...and no matter how you wish to survive it takes you down to drown alone not only is water but also in desperation...because you do wish to live and yet...

Yup. I resemble that remark and I didn't have to commit suicide to claim that un-honorable fact.

Sadness, all around: powerfully, painfully penned, Karen. Well done, if a poem about a horror like suicide can be good. Yours is: stark. Real. In your face. Needs to be said.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :(
