Hmmmm

A new year-winter, spring, summer and fall,

Around we go again through the circle of the seasons,

365 days round and round, 24 hours at a time,

And on this day we promises we’ll keep-or not.

Will we consciously make a choice,

To do something good every day?

Or will each day just pass,

Left in the haze of time, insignificant?

What will stand out, what will be lost?

And what will, in truth, be gained?

In those losses and gains,

What will truly matter?

Will we remember to see what is beautiful,

In the midst of what may not seem so?

Will we decide to make everything matter,

Just a bit more than before?

We drank a simple toast to this, the new year,

To simply be better, to see the depth and miracle,

Of each day as it goes round and round.

Good advice for anyone: see the beauty everywhere around you. Like the Bellamy brothers sang, 'There's a reason for the sunshine sky...

Love and laughter remain and endure inspite of what might conspire to quench them, Karen. And miracles and beauty are inspirations of both. Everything matters when we learn to make the most of what is and what has been and what is yet to come. May this year sow good things into your life as you cherish each and every day as it comes, and live in the blessing of a life enriched by love. Questions to treasure for certain sure as we set off renewed on our onward journey. xx

a beautiful reminder.
i would imagine that you with the loss of your sister will be better able to pick out the 'beauty in the midst of what may not seem so'...know what to cherish and how to touch each minute of our much too brief life with love and appreciation.

i hope that each day softens your acute sorrow and this new year brings the joy of remembering your times together...pat

Karen,

Wonderful poem. But we all know what happens. We keep these resolutions about appreciation and within a month tend to forget unfortunately. May 2011 be better than 2010.

Mary Happy New Year

Good intentions are still just intentions and not work. Great thoughts on the matter of defining the new year. Right on. Liz
