My mind takes a trip back to formative years...

My mind takes a trip back to formative years,
leaping through the air...without any fears.
Peddling my bike as fast as I could,
landing on Dad's new car...right on the hood.

Trying to spell a word...I'd never heard,
much less know how to spell the word.
Slipping a plastic worm in Mrs. Hood's food,
watching her face turn into an evil mood.

My mind takes a trip back to formative years,
brought on laughter and shedding of tears.
Jump on a sled and race down a hill,
my heart leaps with lots of thrills.

Those mud cakes didn't taste good,
never replacing...home-cooked food.
Snatched a kiss from Brian behind a tree,
left my heart pitter-pattering and full of glee.

My mind takes a trip back to formative years,
countless nights under cover...full of fears.
Soaring through the water doing a nosedive,
it's a miracle I surfaced...yet alive.

Delivered newspapers far and wide,
finishing with pleasure and a lot of pride.
Money earned was mine to keep,
it would last...maybe a week.

My mind takes a trip back to formative years,
my first scrap...brought a load of tears.
I began to bloom like most girls do,
cried for hours...it left me in a bad mood.

Oh, those years were full of bombshells and fun,
keeping me on a fast pace and often in a run.
I captured life to its fullest...giving it all I had,
can't say I was good...many times bad.

My mind takes a trip back to formative years,
memories embedded in my brain in joy and cheer.
Those years are behind me now...
I'll make it through this aging process somehow.

Awesome, simply adorable and an easy read.
Yes truly "Formative Years" were some of the best indeed.
Heee, heee liked that little worm trick too, although I did not like worms plastic let alone real but slipping it between a sandwich sure sounds fun...sneaky and hilarious too (loved to have seen that)!
This write is a keepsake I would frame it to share~smile.

Continued blessings,
~Gwendolyn

Ahhh ... we were once young and resilient and filled with mischief and inquisitiveness. Nothing much mattered back then except finding some fun and keeping our parents off our back. Goodness how we change. Excellent!

Barbara, you've taken us on a journey back in time--your time--and those busy years of growing, doing, and learning. In many ways, those years were the best because every minute of every day was filled with some new adventure. Nice poem.

Those formative years truly do provide many memories as we age, and I, for one, loved them so. Your plastic worm in Mrs. Hood's food really gave me some wonderful memories of my own this mornin!!

Great rhyme. Took me on a walk back in time. Some not so happy but you know, we wouldn't be who we are without what we were. Nice write.
