One of a collection of children's poetry...

A tiny bird flies down by me,
flitting around for me to see.
His wing drooping to the ground,
I pick him up...turn him around.

His questioning eyes tell me a lot,
a victim of a sling shot.
I hold him tight against my chest,
take him home, hoping to do my best.

We become friends in a flash,
he trusts me...knows I'm nice.
I doctor and take care of him,
stays by me through thick and thin.

I sing to him and he to me,
we're full of love and glee.
I nurse all of his needs,
I need him and he needs me.

I feel a love...I cannot describe,
a lost child, I've kept alive.
Big eyes search to look into mine,
showers me with love...one of a kind.

I cannot stand the thoughts of losing him,
my love, my child, and my dear friend.
What will I do when it's time for him to go...
I search my soul, I do not know.

We've been pals that's for sure,
our love is tender and oh, so pure.
My love for him is beyond belief...
how can I let him go back to the streets.

His loving eyes and turning head,
allows me to see...he also dreads.
I'll let him fly away, if he should choose,
I hope my heart won't end up bruised.

I have "mothered" a number of birds and other baby animals and this poem spoke volumns about how it feels when we have to let them go back to their natural lives. Loved it!

This is a beautiful story with a wonderful moral for the child in all of us. Love all God's creation, but give them the 'wings' to fly because it will make your heart soar.

What a tender and beautiful write my friend...I recall too as a child nursing small creatures back to health, the joy that I felt, and then the sorrow of letting go! You've penned it well indeed! Enjoyed!
Blessings,

Sometimes, we just have to let them fly, but quite often, it can make one cry.

This reminds me of an old episode of Andy Griffith where Opie kills a mother bird with his slingshot. Then the raises the babies and the day comes for them to be released. He says something like how empty the cage seems and Andy says, "Yes, both don't the trees seem to be full."

Your poem captures the feelings we can have toward an animal.

This is so lovely and sweet. I absolutely love our feathered friends. I have so many in my back yard, and I feed them all the time especially during the winter months. I hope he will return to you. Set it free, and see if he comes back to thee.
Peace, Love, and Light,

Of course, dear Barbara, this tender write reminded me of an incident Michele and I had some years back. A hummingbird flew into one of our front windows and got caught between the bottom window and the top window. It took me ten minutes to extract the poor thing. Finally I was able to without squishing it. For the longest time it lay panting and confused in our hands.

Well my dear wife bonded with that little bugger, and a day later, after nurturing and feeding, it was strong enough to fly on its own; she wept as it flew away. About thirty seconds later it came back and hovered right in front of us as if to say thankyou. This was a touching write.

Blessings to you ...
Richard
