Don't forget your suitcase
I crammed it full of your lies and misgivings
stuck pictures of the "other woman" in your shirt
gave back the ring sealing our vows
put our marriage license in there as a reminder
placed Marie's and Brad's curls in a baggie.

it's loaded with loving words I use to whisper to you
returned the Christmas gifts you gave me
wrapped our family portraits in your undershirt
tucked the lipstick handkerchief out of harm's way
slipped in those moments of marital bless too.

it'll never darken this door again
it was a gift from you when I had our first child
take away the scars "still" hurting my heart and mind
there'll be "no" friendship but for children's sake
it's a heavy suitcase, I jam-packed my feelings inside.

children tears lay on each piece of your clothing
Brad wanted me to pack him inside to surprise you
left his questions "why" so you could respond to him
put in Marie's worries about "not" having a Dad
there'll be "no" forgiveness after this suffering.

I won't look in your eyes of deceit and shame
I'm taking back those years I dedicated to you
I've discarded your name like it is a cancer
disregarding the promises we made to each other
I will survive and live without you.
Wow. There's no mistaking the message in this piece! What I love about this poem is the strong voice, empowered yet definitely hurt. This is the type of person who does move on to "survive" without the cheater. The strength behind this perspective shines! Well done. Love and Hugs.

If he forgets his suitcase after that, I'm sure it would be on purpose. What a way to end the irreconcilable differences. I bet he will never forget the way that ended. Very strong words.

Oh Boy! This is really powerful. Good on you! I take off my hat to women who can say I can't take anymore and send theman packing. I am a man who is against emotional, verbal and physical abuse against women and children, sometimes the damage that is inflicted even with emotional abuse becomes irreversible when it goes on for a long time...the woman loses herself dignity and becomes an empty shell, women are the best among God's creation, I can't see my life without my mom and the woman I love, so I believe that men should appreciate that. I know I do. If he forgets the suitcase throw the dang thing outside.
The title of this poem tells a lot. It hurts to read of the dismemberment of what had once been a happy family. This poem tells all too well the heartbreak that was wrought by a careless act.
I agree with Brittany this would make a great country song, that is exactly what this reminded me of, not a bad thing though, because I love country music
