I asked the stars fading from the sky
If he, who I was shining for amongst you
By any chance did call for me?
My simple question did, indeed, surprise them,
And “Never!” was the answer to my query.

I asked the Dawn who used to bring his letters,
When will I hear from my friend again?
Responded Dawn by laughter and a “Never!”
Another one he added to collection.

I asked the Thunder if, perhaps, it is
The messenger of my friend’s deepest feelings?
“Why, never!” Thunder cracked
And flashed a bolt of lightning.

I asked the Rain if it, perhaps,
Brought down the tears shed by one
Who used to love me?
But raindrops whispered “Never!”
And soaked me to the bone.

I asked the Flowers in a distant field
If He, perhaps, implored them
To be a bright memento of his love?
But “Never!” laughed the Flowers
And closed their buds.

I asked the Sun which shone through morning mist
“When will my friend come by and warm my soul?”
“Oh, never!” flared the Sun and hid in clouds.

I asked the Night, descending over Earth
If ever I can sleep and dream again?
The Night her starry dice did roll,
And yielded yet another “Never!”

I asked his Portrait hanging on my wall
If He did know this day
Would never be repeated,
Another day with you deep in my heart?
He flashed a wily smile and dropped a “Never!”

I asked the Heart which fluttered in my chest
If ever it will be content if He is not around?
“Oh, Never” pounded Heart
And graced me with the pain.

I thought, perhaps, my friend
Has lost his will to write
And asked the Wind to tell me that I am
Still on the Altar of his love?
But “Never!” howled the Wind and blew away.

I asked the Tree, a witness of the joy
We both used to share,
Was it, perhaps, aware
That love wasn’t meant to last?
“I Always knew it”, sighed the tree
And shrugged the morning dew
To wash away the misery.

I asked the Solitude, my eternal escort
If friend of mine, perhaps,
Implored it to replace it by his presence?
But “Never!” was the Solitude’s reply
Accompanied by timid smile.

I then inquired of All:
What must be done
To change my fate?
But silence reigned.

To Heavens was my final plea:
Why did he speak of love
If that was all a lie?

It seems you can search and search and search, but if it is gone, it is simply gone and there is no getting it back. I feel this. So very sad but so well written. ~Best to you! ~Elizabeth

AHH...LIANA, HOW RICH AND SATISFYING. HOWEVER, YOU ENDED WITH A SO IMPORTANT QUESTION...AND YOU KNOW, I MUST ANSWER IT; NO...NOT AT ALL A LIE BUT...TO THE HEAVENS...SHOULD HAVE GONE ONE'S 'FIRST' PLEA...FOR 'HE' IS LOVE...AND THEN ALL OTHERS QUESTS FOLLOW. YOU ARE A DYNAMIC POET AND I LOVE AND APPRECIATE YOUR WORK. BLESSINGS TO YOU, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

I know the pain of "never". This poem is filled with raw emotion, and whispers the question the broken hearted have asked throughout the ages... why? Hugs, Kathy

Never is not enough, we must ponder things in our hearts and look for the meaning of God and find him and then all things will fall into place as to why things do as they do in all creatures great and small. Great poem and translation though.

As a literary translator myself, I was attracted to your writing and its translation from Russian.

Very intricate weaving in the pattern of your writing. I feel the Russian soul in the style.

I like the simplicity and effectiveness of the end.

Greetings,

Axilea

Great minds explore far corners of planes where no soul ever set foot before. What they find there amazes those who never dared to stray too far from what is familiar to them. Yet each dimension holds its own. I suspect Mr. Kardiukov has visited many of them. Thse were stunning proof of that. Thank you for sharing.

Your thoughts provoke one into the questions of so many who have felt and truly touched love...there always remains the memory and loss when one is left with the search of reason from the emptiness of lost love...

very nice work.....

Why did he speak of love
If that was all a lie?

..sometimes a soulmate enters our life and the intensity of that love SEEMS to be THE LOVE..however perhaps he graced your life so YOU could learn MORE about who YOU are!? When you clearly DEFINE that.. you layers of darkness will be removed and then suddenly your REAL love/lover will manifest right before your eyes..have faith..those who seek..FIND!

..this poem is superb!

Blessings Liana
PS did you know your name means to BIND, to wrap around?..so ask yourself to WHAT/WHOM are you bound to..who are you WRAPPED in..is it for your highest good?

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
