"FOR THIS CHILD I PRAYED"

Content with marriage and career,
your life was full and sweet,
With friends and social gatherings
and challenges to meet.
The two of you in harmony
together worked and played.
The pieces seemed all set in place --
but someone must have prayed.

You had no dream of "mothering" 
It didn't fit your mold,
The muss -- the fuss -- the bothering -- interruptions untold.
No, motherhood was not for you --
important plans you'd made,
 Good plans (for just the two of you) --
but someone must have prayed. 

Deep in your heart began to stir
a restless discontent,
A sense of being "incomplete" --
You knew not what it meant,
'till fleeting scenes caressed your mind 
like sweet melodies played,
and soft notes formed a lullaby; 
Oh, someone must have prayed.

For God, who knows our every need,
had purposed all along
to send a darling baby girl
to give your heart a song,
So, in His wisdom and His love,
He told someone to pray,
then whispered lovingly to you
about a better way.

What brought that unexpected change,
that yearning for a child?
What made the thought of motherhood 
now bring a wistful smile?
I tell you true , God planned it all --
the best of gifts for you,
Then waited patiently until
you joined in that prayer, too.

"For this child I prayed,
and the Lord hath given me
my petition which I asked of Him."
