Asked to write dialogue to be read between the songs in the Easter Musical Presentation, I retreated to the basement to listen to the songs and wait on the Lord for what He wanted me to write.
The first song is, "Jesus, You Are Welcome Here," a lively number about welcoming God to our midst with praises. Here's what I wrote and what happened as a result:
Jesus................Jesus!....................Hello?.................Jesus? Where are You, Jesus? I can't feel You!...................I can't see You! I long to have You near; to bask in the light of your presence -- feel the touch of Your hand. Why can't I? You said You would be with me always -- ALWAYS! Why am I not aware of Your presence? Is it -- could it be -- because I hide myself from Your presence so often -- because I choose to ignore You, while You wait so patiently, longing to gain just a small portion of my attention........
Oh, Jesus..........Lord ............may I call You "Lord?" Can You forgive me for my self-centered ways? I need to make time with You my highest priority. Jesus, I have wronged You. Help me to come back to You. I remember reading in Your Word, "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you," ...........and "Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He shall lift you up."
Lord, cleanse me. God of new beginnings, help me to begin again, and I will praise Your holy Name. Yes, I will praise You, Jesus!...............Lord!
I remember, too, in Your Word, your servant David wrote, "You are holy" and he said that You inhabit -- You live in -- the praises of Your people! And David said, "those who seek Him will praise the Lord." Lord, I am seeking You.......... ..........and I will praise You!
Jesus -- You are welcome here!

The strangest thing happened after I wrote this. I read over what I had written, and as soon as I began to read, tears began to fall. At first I didn't know what hit me, but as the tears streamed uncontrollably down my face, I realized that God was confronting me with my atrocious sin of neglecting Him. When I had asked Him for words, He had given me much more as He showed me my own soul's barrenness and gently led me back to Himself. Only after that realization was I able to wholeheartedly sing to Him, "Jesus, You are welcome here!"
Oh, Connie. This is beautiful, inspiring poetry that will bless many who read, especially me. Thank you--tears are gathering, threatening to spill over..........a meaningful, powerful piece. Definately a keeper.
