The bread and the wine are symbols of Love
that sent Jesus Christ down to earth.
They tell a story as old as the hills,
of a Savior of humble birth.
His life a promise, fulfilled for mankind,
sacrifice from the heart of God.
The prophets foretold He'd not commit sin,
innocent, among men He trod.
Signs, wondrous miracles, teaching ordained,
all marks of Jesus' ministry.
Seeking needy souls, He filled hungry hearts,
forever changing history.
The day came to pass when Evil stepped forth;
The mob shouted, "Crucify Him!"
His body was bruised, His blood freely flowed
as He died to forgive my sin.
As I take the bread, I think of His wounds;
the nails in His hands and His feet.
The wine means His blood was shed there for me;
I was saved by His mercy sweet.
Yes, the wine and bread are symbols of Love;
I'm so thankful for Calv'ry's tree!
He gave His life's blood to redeem my soul.
Hallelujah, He rescued me!
"He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought us peace was upon, and by His wounds we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5 NIV)
