It is true we all move in the same direction?
With every first breath
we are someone’s delighted sigh.
But as the old adage professes, from the first slap and cry we all begin to die.
Too many of us are forged full speed ahead'
not allowed to feel the world’s quality.
I am not sure or sure I care why the actions we commit while speeding so blindly into others expectations occur.
Is it a born flaw, a destiny to never answer those opportunities that arise?
Is our comfort zone so mighty, that the fresh unscarred hopes we were born with simply run from the exasperation of such stupidity?
An artist stares at a blank canvas and he wonders what can he do to make it live.
To create a masterpiece that will never age but always be admired for its simplicity.
His page has no comfort zone. It carries no passed down sins of the world,
yet begs to prove itself.
In its white silence, it screams, color me! touch me, feel my texture.
See I am real; I am here for your expression.
Is this not what a baby’s first cry in fact is?
Born a simple entity to sculpt, a new canvas to beautify?
Then if honesty were as a baker’s dozen, we would realize within those lost opportunities, the canvas can be returned to its pristine state.
Though the wrong underlying marks of the artist’s past
mis-strokes will remain in the shadow of a new palette,
so what.
It may darken the new whitewash, but it’s fade through adds a depth to the painting the artist did not achieve at first try.
And when it is done, hanging proud of the mistake which hides beneath its renewed splendor,
it becomes a masterpiece of learning to meld with the things that didn’t work.
and in its defiance to be eradicated, blends eventually with those that did.
No, we do not begin to die from the first slap and cry.
we learn to use those dark grays we tried to wash away
for they are the depth of who we are.
