Columbian Red Bud

She walked into the office one normal Monday where I worked.
Oh how she quickly got every ones attention
She was very dark skinned first thought she was a Jamaican
Her Black hair shone stood out over that sea of gray.
My salt mine was St Pete, Fla
Babcock & Wilcox – Engineering
And where as they all came down here to die
I came down to fly.

She was a year older than me.
I don’t know the story
What brought her into my life
But there she was.
.
We made quick friends
We’ld like to go across the street
And eat our cucumber sandwiches in the sunshine of that natural state
Afterwards we’ld go have a chew

We were never intimate

Closest we ever got
When one day she was coming out of the park
She saw me and came walking over to me
And her blouse was unbuttoned
Don’t know if she ever knew
But when she caught me staring
She had no bra on - but that was the norm in the leftover fun from ’71.

I got to see her naked one afternoon
I had come over for a visit to her house
And she had come out of the shower
Not knowing I had strolled into the kitchen
As she bouncing from the bathroom
To her bedroom down bloom.
I still fantasy about that that dark curly bush
Skipping in the misty shadow. of damp mirth
That was my first chance
That was my last chance

Ah, missed opportunities. Have had a few myself. My Colombian experience was with a guy, a tech, who wanted me to join him on a trip to Mexico to marry his secretary love interest from Portland. I didn't go along and it ended badly. He was detained at the border with his new bride until he could prove that he worked in our plant in California.

And then there was the Ecuadorian Charro look-alike plastic surgeon who became my first caregiver/all-around assistant. We exchanged emails yesterday.

I relate to your story, Doug. Each of us (me mostly in my 20's when I was less disciplined) has recollections, such as yours, to spice our lives. Enjoyed the imagery. Peace to you... rlc
