Bacon!

This poem was inspired by a TV ad showing a dog responding to multiple stimuli. His responses parallel the actions of some nice people I have known.

“Bacon!”

The man holds a picture of a cat,
“Bacon!” dog does eagerly bark,
Next picture’s a kitty, rather fat,
“Bacon!” Again, dog’s off the mark.

Each new picture that’s held aloft,
Elicits same response from the dog,
“Bacon!” he says, early and oft,
Thinks all reality is fried hog.

Some people are deluded as well,
Irrational, whatever they’re shown.
“God did it,” if good fortune befell,
“God protects,” if tragedy full blown.

“God is love, he sends the rains,”
(And a destructive tornado too.)
“God was with me, storm took gains,
My family died, but I pulled through.”

Storm veered directly to his home site,
Does it occur to wonder why,
If omnipotent God had no spite,
It would not simply pass him by?

The reason, of course, dear friend,
Is probability and chance,
Were the culprits that did send
Whirling storm in sheer happenstance.

For trillions of untold vectored actions
Cause energized material motions.
Weather, magma and tectonic tractions
Show no respect for human notions.

Noon at specific coordinate,
If thick clouds don’t float in the skies,
Sun’s rays on the earth will resonate,
On your face if you lift your eyes.

Same coordinate, storm will arrive,
At specific time, its track coincide,
And if you’re there, want to stay alive,
You’ll find safe haven and hide.

Seems epitome of arrogance,
To think that nature, its intent would bend,
Would compromise vectored elegance,
Do one a favor, physical laws rend.

God did not send rain, his love upholding
Neither did he send screaming winds.
Was nature’s due process unfolding,
That only on time and place depends!

So when observing side of hog, fried,
“Bacon” is an appropriate declaration,
And if natural phenomena is spied,
It’s a vectored energy conglomeration.

Neither God’s love nor his wrath,
Accurately describes nature’s way,
God rests on a neutral path,
Over bacon and weather makes no say.

You're a thinking, brain using man L.So am I. I don't go along with the blame God crowd. Neither do I go along with the pray everyday crowd. I pray but not over every meal and every deal. I'm an individual not spoiled. I believe in handling all I can myself. But I do get comfort in my faith. According to some, I might be going to hell. I'd rather go to hell thinking, than to go to heaven with a closed mind that never did explore freedom of thought, by way which is God given. G

I was thinking of Francis, or at least that smoked and fried pig fat I need to make my eeg taste right.

I fear you will not persuade those true believers that credit god with everything. I understand there is a rush on a series of bizzare books loosely based on the bible as though they were the gospel truth.

As always, I enjoyed the write; Eileen perhaps said it best in stating that God does not micromanage things; He gave each and all of us the ability to make our own way.

I would have to agree that God is the ultimate in objectivity. I've seen some pretty amazing things in my life--I lived in Moore, OK and was involved in three tornadoes in 4 1/2 years, including that mile-wide killer tornado of May 3, 1999. The odds were astronomical against that happening, but it did. Some things I just can't explain, nor can the scientists. Albert Einstein said, "God is subtle, but not malicious." I agree. I'm just happy to be alive.

A commentary... a rant... a most marvelous telling of truth, stark, bold and needed to be said! Leland, my peach, you trod where others' fear to go.. you stick it out there, mindful of your poetic 'punch', deliciously smart-assed without a hint of rudeness! Hold up that mirror and let's see whose image smiles back. (grin). When the storm clouds gather, I know exactly whose feet are going to zip me to safety. I'm keeping this one! love ya back, katy xox.

God loves the rightous and unrightious, you have it pin pointed, ie, I just came out of hospital with a potenally killer virus, I survived, thus far, an elder lady died of the same, God has no favourites, I need say no more, as to do so will be replicating your point...

I applaud you Leland....this is truth...
why would God choose one soldier to die
and then save the next...complex questions..
I believe in HIM...simply because I want to
believe in Him....no proof is ever needed for me..
This was brilliant writing and I do agree with you..

Bravo Leland, superb write! It may surprise you to know I agree with you! Though God is creator of all things He never said He would micro-manage them. I once saw on TV a woman thanking God for saving her home during a hurricaine, she was a Christian. While the woman next door lost everything, she too was a Christian. Did she think God hated her while He saved the other. How sad that such thinking exists. God does not interfere in the laws of nature.

"Bacon" is bacon, but in this poem it serves its intent not to be greasy, with a thick smoke and volatile... This is "Bacon", the poem and its words are very ethereal with its surreal entwined through its teleological contents.

Please, allow me to ask You to excuse me, here, I was supposed to answer the question, quote:
“Review it! - What do you think of “Bacon!”?”
– One of the best written by our Sublime Poet Leland Waldrip.

Our human genome is full of viruses similar to HIV-1. These have played an important role in human evolution and still play an important role in human embryology and day-to-day chemistry. Just how important are they to our evolution past and future?
