HOLD THE PHONE! Sorry, folks, but with the picture I posted on AD a couple of weeks ago apparently I contributed to propagating a hoax. I received it from a friend on the Internet, but apparently we have to add it to the incredible number of cute ways to misconstrue the truth. Having been in high school in 1954, it seemed to me to fit the context of the time, so I didn’t question it, but the picture above was actually (according to www.snopes.com) taken in 2000 at the Smithsonian Institution exhibit "Fast Attacks and Boomers: Submarines in the Cold War" and depicts:
A full-scale mock-up of a typical nuclear-powered submarine's maneuvering room in which the ship's engineers control the power plant and electrical and steam systems.

Huh! Jerry B swiped my thoughts... good thing he said them as I would have (grin). Phooey! Hoax or no hoax, pardon me but I just like the verses... the infectious rhyme and meter. Dare I paraphrase: 'the poetry is the thing! This was great fun and a reading treat for me. katy xox.
Ooops... This could have happened to anyone, dear friend, even to the most sagacious. You, I trust entirely, and know that the information you share with us through your wonderful writes is accurate and well researched. By the way, the poem was already a great one, Leland, and these new verses have made it greater, as well as even more thought provoking.

Glad you became aware of the hoax Leland. It seems it can happen anyplace. I've been getting blamed for emails I never even heard of, and so have many others. what a mess! Thanks for sharing...Eileen
Now I can relax. If even you can be had, no one is immune. Somehow that makes me feel good. It shouldn't, but it does. Thanks for clearing it up, Leland.

Now I know why I like to read your work........if you do make a mistake, you admit it :-) I like the additional lines.
