If one believes in the power of prayer, I would not remove that joy from you. But praying, though ubiquitous, is not universal among serious, truth-seeking adults. There is another truth.

My friend turned and said to me,
“Without prayer, where would you be?”

Oh, you mean I can only do a moral thing
By asking God His help to bring?
Should I ask for comforts on a broad range?
Or the effects of my actions Him to change?
My concerns are these, I have but two:
To know I hear God and not you,
Or another with agenda previously aligned
To subtly exploit those prayerfully inclined.

Praying aloud invites camouflaged crime,
The subtle slavery of stealing one’s mind.
Jesus as recorded in Matthew’s pages:
Praying aloud’s already earned its wages,
For the pray-er’s motive is: being heard
To speak grand examples of flowery word!
He went on to say with phrases that bind,
Pray in the closet, God’s in your mind.

So if God already knows my every thought,
Silence must be communication sought.

Concern two: Will God, physical laws recant,
Change universal order, my wishes to grant?
No, all other laws would thus be affected,
If just one He bent or another neglected,
Chaos would come, destroy us quickly,
Our world’d be gone, dust aswirl thickly.

Now if God won’t subvert universal order,
For entreaty by some son or daughter,
What value is prayer except to affect
The content of the pray-er’s intellect?
Or to lead others via selfish designs,
To channels the pray-er subtly assigns?

So if praying aloud is against God’s will,
And praying for change won’t fill the bill,*
Just meditate! You’ll accomplish more,
By using abilities and skills of your core,
Focus more deeply on the problem at hand,
Your own abilities to meet all demand.

In this mighty truth there’s a lesson to learn:
Prayers are simply not God’s concern!
