Once I was little and had no cares
I ‘d run all through the house
And right up the stairs

Time went by.... and I grew up
Then I stopped on the stairs
When I got to it’s top

There hung a portrait
Of a special little girl
A Heavenly blonde with a subtle little curl
Her hazel eyes seemed far from mine
Always smiling down on me
if I gave her the time

She was our big sister who never grew up
She went to heaven even before I was thought of
Someone told me but I don’t know who
That, she gave it her best...
Nothing more they could do...
All she ever wanted was to go to school

When I grew taller and could touch her frame
Her eyes seemed closer ...they didn’t look the same
I lived passed her young age of five
This made me think a lot about life
Memories alive on the wall where she hung
Always and forever, everlasting young

Sometimes I would touch her canvas face
or blow some dust off her painted lace
How long will her portrait last? I would wonder...
Will she always be remembered?
My big little sister, Our Cathy Ann
Our Advocate in Heaven, Our Fathers Lamb!

Now every year that goes by, on her Birthday day
My skies take on a different sort of gray
The clouds reveal a more subtle hue
as I quietly whisper, “Happy Birthday to You!”
The painting of her, now, smiles down on my niece
Her souls purpose has a different place.....
