Sister of the Moon
(based on a true happening in 1999)
Traveling the country roads
alone, the midst of night
no destination in thought
seeking isolation for the troubled
an escape from the confusion
I spot her in the headlights reflection
a testament to man's indifference
left like a doe as road kill
she howls for her pack
and for salvation from Mother Moon
agony is screaming in her trembling
warily she looks and kisses
the hand that reaches out to help
is she an illusion or
a spiritual adventure
touching my heart with trust
she comes with me and dwells awhile
I tend her, she heals me
as we gaze into a flickering fire
a nudge on my shoulder
prods me to look at the moon
and I see beyond, way beyond
to an open door within my mind
where all the answers have been
all the pieces to
the many puzzles lay waiting
the moon casts many molds
the great she wolf shows me
which one I belong to
she stayed for the winter season
and I studied the centuries past
in her trusting eyes seeing
glimpses of my own hope
deep in the gold flecks of wisdom
she taught me all she knew then
answering the plaintive call of her pack
she headed for the hills, stopped and
looked back at me, her eyes
spoke of what we had shared, become
then she disappeared
I was falling and she caught me
transporting me to my reality
she is my Sister of the Moon.

(There are many Hybrid Wolf packs
in the rural countryside where I live.)
Marcia, I know of two peple that will have a heart thanking you for this unique piece.
Man should display the "lesser creatures," kindness, with the same quasi ambivalence one have to a perfect strange we see with courtesy.
Enjoyed! We have a wolf rescue place about a mile as the crow flies on this mountain, i must admit that there is a primal essence that pervades when they howl, but not long ago I witnessed first hand what the Elk thought about it, and now they are seldom seen.

Oh Marcia this write has touched my soul, you both needed healing and you both received it through each other. We had a Newfoundland half wolf and she was the joy of our life...the wolf traits are destinct and she was totally different from any other Newfy we had. She will never be forgotten and this write of yours. Touching and tender. Love and hugs, Bonnie
