The memories find companionship
with the dreams.
Hopes mingle with and become friends
with disappointments.
Tomorrow becomes yesterday
faster than lightning.
Empty arms become comfortable
with the space unfilled.
Lips once parted in anticipation
close in acceptance.
The moon no longer smiles but is merely
an astronomical event.
Stars that once danced in eyes that saw forever
return to the heavens.
The days go on without beginning or end
and time becomes day after day.
Life becomes a culmination of habit
and acknowledgment.
A heart that raced with another in perfect unison
now beats from habit.
And all that is left are the settled dregs
of a once in a lifetime love.

Your poem and the line Once in a lifetime love - - -bring thought - do we believe that a love that was special to us - was that once in a life time Love. Possibly --- how many times can a heart fall in -true love. What are the other adventures? Were we meant to find only one Love in a life time, and all others are secondary? Or do we fool our hearts.

"Lips once parted in anticipation close in acceptance" - such meaningful words. "When Love Goes by" beautifully describes how life changes once love is gone. Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to read more of your poems.
When "tomorrow becomes yesterday" is the Autumn of love, its leaves falling whithered like thoughts without a owner, a heart without a beat.
